Black History Month~Jackie Robinson

Jackie Robinson was born on January 31,1919 in a town called Cairo,Georgia. Jackie Robinson attended Pasadena Junior College from September, 1937 to August, 1939. He received an athletic scholarship to UCLA and attended between September, 1939 to early 1941 when he left to accept a job as athletic director for the National Youth Foundation. The thing that Jackie is well know for is that he was the first African-American to play major league baseball. The major league baseball team Jackie played for was the Brooklyn Dodgers. Throughout his decade-long career with the Brooklyn Dodgers, he made advancements in the cause of civil rights for black athletes. Through his career he helped the Dodgers win the World Series in 1955. When he retired his career in 1957 he had a batting average off .311!
